Brown Oak Cake Knife
Handcrafted in small batches, these beautiful wooden cake knives not only cut neatly without tearing but are wide enough to be used for serving. They make a lovely wedding gift or just as a special present to yourself.
Each knife has been individually made from rare Brown Oak (or Tiger Oak), sourced from a local sawmill. Brown Oak is known for it’s rich, often striped grain. It has a naturally occurring discolouring which darkens the wood, and is only uncovered when the tree is cut.
Finished with several coats of food-safe mineral oil and a plant-based vegan wax blend.

Not suitable for dishwashers or submerging in water. For best results wipe clean with a damp cloth and use wood balm regularly to preserve the finish.
Selwyn House is formed by Sean Best and Ellie Smalls, who met studying Fine Art at Leeds Arts University. Always drawn to making things, Sean bought a second-hand lathe and began teaching himself woodturning. An all-consuming obsession for understanding and working with wood followed, and after making the move back to Ellie’s home county of Derbyshire in 2017, they formed Selwyn House, combining their creative talents to create small-batch handmade tableware & homeware from the best British-grown timbers they could get their hands on.
OUR SERVICE
Every order will be carefully gift wrapped, using uncoated recycled paper from sustainable sources and printed with vegetable oil based inks. They will be sent out using eco-friendly packaging within 2-3 working days either by Royal Mail or courier. Please note that during busy periods there may be a delay. You will receive an email when your order has been wrapped and shipped.
